Mesh fabric is a perforated fabric woven with a leno weave, typically composed of ground warp, skein warp, and one set of weft yarns, using fine yarns and a low density. Mesh fabric has good resilience, breathability, moisture permeability, and is soft and durable, making it suitable for sportswear and other applications requiring breathability and comfort.

A fabric with mesh-like openings is called mesh fabric. Different types of mesh fabric can be woven using different equipment, mainly woven mesh fabric and knitted mesh fabric.

There are generally two methods for weaving machine-made mesh fabric: one method uses two sets of warp yarns (ground warp and skein warp), which are twisted together to form a shed, and then interwoven with the weft yarns (see leno weave). Twisted warp fabric utilizes a special heddle (also called a semi-heddle) that twists to the left side of the ground warp. After one (three, or five) weft insertions, it twists to the right side of the ground warp. The resulting mesh-like structure, formed by the intertwining of the weft yarns, creates a stable mesh, known as gauze. Another method uses jacquard weave or variations in reed threading, with warp yarns in groups of three threaded through a single reed tooth. This also produces fabric with small holes, but the mesh structure is unstable and prone to shifting, hence the name "false gauze."

Machine-woven mesh fabric can be plain or yarn-dyed, and can also feature large jacquard patterns, allowing for designs of varying complexity. It is breathable, and after dyeing, the fabric becomes crisp and smooth. Besides summer clothing, it is particularly suitable for curtains, mosquito nets, and other similar products.
