Polyester fabric is a synthetic fabric made of polyester fiber, commonly known as "Dacron". Its main component is polyethylene terephthalate, processed from petrochemical raw materials through melt spinning. Due to its tight and symmetrical molecular chain structure, this fabric has strong wrinkle resistance, good shape retention, and abrasion and heat resistance, and is widely used in the manufacture of outerwear, bags, tents, and other products. Its hydrophobic properties result in poor moisture absorption (moisture regain of only 0.4%), but this can be improved through modification techniques.

1. Polyester fabrics have high strength and elastic recovery capabilities, making them durable, wrinkle-resistant, and require no ironing.

2. Polyester fabrics have poor moisture absorption, which can feel stuffy in summer and easily generate static electricity in winter, affecting comfort. However, they dry very easily after washing, and their wet strength hardly decreases, they do not deform, and have good wash-and-wear properties.

3. Polyester is the most heat-resistant synthetic fiber fabric, possesses thermoplasticity, and can be used to make pleated skirts with durable pleats.

4. Polyester fabrics have good light resistance; except for being inferior to acrylic fibers, their sun resistance surpasses that of natural fiber fabrics. Especially behind glass, their sun resistance is excellent, almost on par with acrylic fibers.

5. Polyester fabrics exhibit good resistance to various chemicals. Acids and alkalis have minimal damaging effects, and they are also resistant to mold and insects.

Polyester has a wide range of applications, being extensively used in clothing and industrial products. Flame-retardant polyester, due to its permanent flame-retardant properties, has a broad range of applications. Besides playing an irreplaceable role in industrial textiles, interior decoration, and vehicle interior decoration, it also plays a significant role in the field of protective clothing. According to national standards for flame-retardant protective clothing, departments such as metallurgy, forestry, chemical, petroleum, and fire protection should use flame-retardant protective clothing. The number of people in China who should use flame-retardant protective clothing exceeds one million, indicating a huge market potential. In addition to pure flame-retardant polyester, multi-functional series products with flame retardancy, waterproofing, oil repellency, and antistatic properties can be produced according to specific user requirements. Applying waterproof and oil-repellent finishing to flame-retardant polyester fabrics can improve the functionality of flame-retardant clothing.
